Infertility Myths vs. Facts

Myth: Infertility is exclusively a women’s issue.
Fact: Actually, male infertility can be as prevalent as female infertility. Male infertility occurs in approximately one-third of couples struggling to conceive – virtually the same as the incidence of female infertility.

Myth: Infertility isn’t a common problem.
Fact: The latest statistics show that approximately one in seven couples experience infertility, so it is far more common than most people think. Even if you have already had one or more babies, you can experience what’s called secondary infertility and have difficulty conceiving again.

Myth: If you can’t get pregnant, you must be doing something wrong.
Fact: Infertility is only rarely a sexual problem, and it is not caused by a lack of masculinity in men or femininity in women. It is a medical problem and in many cases can be treated with surgery, medications or assisted reproductive technologies.

Myth: Taking fertility drugs or doing in vitro fertilization (IVF) will always result in having twins, triplets or even higher multiples.
Fact: While taking fertility medications such as Clomid does increase the odds of having a multiple pregnancy, it does not guarantee that will occur. In the U.S., one in seven couples who successfully conceive with the help of Clomid will have twins, while one in four will have twins after more advanced techniques such as insemination or IVF. In fact, the best way to avoid being the next "Octomom" is through our most advanced methods which allow you to actually control the number of embryos that are placed in your womb.

Myth: If you’d just relax and stop worrying, you’d get pregnant.
Fact: Infertility is a medical condition with physical issues that often are treatable. While stress often goes hand-in-hand with infertility, it has not been found to be a singular cause of infertility.

Myth: I can’t even consider infertility treatments because they’re too expensive.
Fact: The Fertility Partnership was created specifically to help build families by using the latest technology to offer top quality, compassionate fertility care at a significantly lower cost. Our goal is to open up the possibility of infertility treatments to as many families as possible, especially those who previously found high quality care to be financially out of reach. Please contact the Fertility Partnership to learn more about our services and discuss the possibilities for your care.
